Welcome to the St Peter’s Catholic School community website. St Peter’s is situated in the town of Coleambally. Coleambally is a small town situated in the Riverina, in the Murrumbidgee Local Government Area. Coleambally is one of the newest towns in the state of New South Wales, officially opened in June 1968.

St Peter’s is one of 24 primary schools in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The Diocese of Wagga Wagga was established in 1917 and has a rich faith tradition; our faith communities are nourished and sustained by the sacramental life of the church administered and accessed through 31 parishes of the Diocese. The Most Reverend Mark Edwards OMI is our Bishop.
St Peter’s School is where, in partnership with the Parish, our students come to know Jesus through life at our school. At St Peter’s we work to provide a holistic education for all, that develops your child spiritually, academically, socially, physically and emotionally, in a community that is underpinned through the teachings of Jesus through the Gospels.
The school’s motto “Way, Truth and Life” is based on Chapter 14 of St John’s Gospel. We strive to achieve this ideal by daily example. The dedicated and committed staff members work closely in partnership with families to assist every child to develop their full potential. We understand that each child is unique therefore we provide learning experiences that are child centred, differentiated, relevant, interesting and meaningful. As a result, St Peter’s boasts a fine history of academic and sporting excellence.
St Peter’s School offers excellent teaching and learning facilities including modern, spacious buildings, well equipped classrooms and spacious play areas. Students are provided with various opportunities through support programs, whether extending learners or supporting students with programs such as small group Literacy/Numeracy intervention programs or one-to-one teaching.

Our History
Over 50 years of learning
- St Peter’s School was blessed and opened in January 1970 by Bishop Francis Carroll.
- It was the first school in the diocese to open with all lay staff.
- It is situated on 6.5 acres of land in what was a pine forest.
- In the opening year in 1970 the enrolment was 68 children.
- Over 600 children have attended St Peter’s since its opening.
- 15 women and men have held the position of principal ranging in tenure from 1 to 14 years.
- Over 50 teachers have taught at St Peter’s since its opening.
- The first Parish Priest was Fr Peter O’Leary and Sunday Masses were held in the upstairs classroom until the church was built in 1982.
- Depending on enrolment numbers the children have been grouped 3 or 4 classes in a range of configurations.
- Enrolment numbers have fluctuated between 45 and 105 over the past 46 years.
- In 1997 the school underwent a major refurbishment where all classrooms were updated and the administration area moved to downstairs.
- A multipurpose room was built in 2003 and has been used for a variety of activities most recently as a Creative Arts Room.
- In 2006 a Covered Outdoor Learning Area was erected to provide refuge from the heat and rain as well as an outdoor learning area.
- In 2009/2010, a new building was built on the ‘octopus’ oval housing all administration areas and a new library. The original school building was refurbished and now contains two large classrooms with an ‘operable’ wall between as well as a storeroom on each floor. The four spacious classrooms are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards to enhance the education of the students at St. Peter’s School.
- In 2017 all children in Yr 2 to Year 6 were provided with a Chromebook for their use for the year. iPads are in use by the K/1 class for a variety of tasks.
